1. Policies
Student Supervision/Pick-Up and Drop-Off
Outdoor supervision of students begins at 8:30 a.m. and finishes at 3:45 p.m. Students who arrive before 8:30 a.m. or remain after 3:45 p.m. will be expected to use the Before and After Program. Students should not be on the school grounds or in the school building before 8:30 am, unless previous arrangements have been made with the school (i.e. sports team practices, etc.) Any students remaining on the school grounds after 3:45 p.m. will be sent to the After School Program and charged for this service accordingly.
If children are driven to, or picked up from school, drivers are to park in the parking lot east of the school gym and main entrance. A right of way for school buses must be maintained at all times. All vehicles are to enter at the Sterling Avenue entrance and exit via St. Anne's Road. This policy is in place to direct traffic flow in one direction for our school buses and therefore help to minimize any safety risk to our children. In the event that a child has an outside appointment during school hours, he/she must be picked up from the classroom.
Attendance/Call Back Policy
Because the safety of your child is important to us, if for any reason your child is unable to attend school (or may be late), please call the office before 9:00 a.m. and leave a message. If we do not hear from you, we will call your home or workplace to ensure your child is safe and secure.
Student Illness
We do not have facilities at school to accommodate children who are ill. We may telephone and request someone to pick him/her up. If your child is too ill to go outside at recess or participate in school activities, please keep your child at home that day.
Emergency Contact Forms
An emergency contact form is sent home the first week of school. All parents/guardians are asked to fill it out and immediately send it back to school. If any changes occur during the school year, please notify the office.
Fire Drills
Fire drills are held regularly to ensure the school can be evacuated in an orderly, panic-free manner in case of an emergency. The wearing of indoor shoes is mandatory since fire drills are unannounced and every person must leave the building when the fire alarm sounds.
Uniform
We have a school-wide dress code that all students are expected to follow:

- Navy blue pants (classic tapered pants) or walking shorts
- Solid white shirt with school logo

- White or navy blue socks

Lunch Program Policy
All children who are able to should go home for lunch. Those staying at the school remain in their classrooms to eat their lunch. Supervision is provided by staff and student monitors. Lunch is eaten and cleaned up by 12:20 when students are dismissed for lunch recess. The lunch program is a privilege. Any student who consistently displays inappropriate or disruptive behavior will be required to make other arrangements for the lunch hour. Students are NOT allowed to leave the school premises during the lunch hour without a written note signed and dated by at least one parent or guardian.
Personal Property
Parents are requested to see that their children's clothes, boots, gloves, scarves, running shoes, lunch kits or any other personal belongings are marked with the child's name. Clothing does get misplaced and many children have identical or similar clothing. If a child has lost or misplaced an article of clothing, there is a good chance it will be in the Lost and Found boxes located near the main entrance. Children should look in these boxes. Parents are also encouraged to come to the school and look for lost items. Every year many excellent articles of clothing are left behind. Twice a year unclaimed items are collected and sent to charitable organizations.
Early Dismissals
Once a month, school dismisses early (2:30 p.m.), in accordance with Louis Riel School Division's school bus schedule. Currently, the early dismissal day falls on the fourth Tuesday of each month. After the students leave, staff remain at school for professional development or staff meetings.
Phone Use
The students are allowed to use the phone during the noon hour and after 3:25 when absolutely necessary or for emergencies, provided they have permission from their teacher.
Lockers
Lockers are provided for students in grades 5-8. Students are responsible for keeping their lockers clean and tidy. No decorations are allowed on the outside of the lockers. Classroom teachers will assign lockers. All lock combinations must be left with the classroom teacher. Students are advised not to share their locker combination with others.
2. St. Emile Discipline Policy
Vision Statement
Our vision is a safe and secure Christian environment in which the dignity of each individual is respected.
Our vision asserts that each individual will:
- Respect themselves and others
- Act as responsible, productive citizens
- Demonstrate the ability to problem solve, predict consequences and make appropriate choices.
Guiding Principles
It is our aim at St. Emile to provide an environment that will foster the spiritual, academic, physical, social and emotional growth of our students.
St. Emile School is a Christian community of students, parents and staff who work together to develop the total person centered on Jesus Christ. We promote Christian values while maintaining sound academic, religious and athletic programs.
Rules and Regulations
All students shall:
- Respect the educational process through the display of appropriate attitude and physical behaviour.
- Respect and honour the rights of other students to work in an environment free of intimidation, harassment and disruptions.
- Be honest in their relations with other students, staff and parents/guardians. Lying, stealing and cheating are forms of dishonesty and are unacceptable behaviours.
- Treat all people with consideration and respect. Fighting, pushing, tripping, kicking, biting, and rough play are not acceptable behaviours.
- Use language that demonstrates respect for God, staff, students, and parents/guardians. Name calling, crude, degrading, rude and obscene language spoken, written, implied or gestured is unacceptable.
- Respect all school property. Students are expected to treat the school and equipment with the same care and respect as they would their own valuable possessions.
We believe:
- Consequences should be fair and not always equal.
- Consequences teach about behaviour.
- Consequences should not be punishments.
Effective discipline achieves four goals that punishment cannot. It shows students what they have done wrong, gives them ownership of the problems created, gives them ways to solve the problems, and leaves their dignity intact.
Consequences that support the development of inner discipline may include, but not be limited to the list below. The individual nature of student's behaviour will be given consideration when determining appropriate consequences.
- Community or school service
- Restitution
- Detention
- Denial of participation in school activities
- Denial of privileges
- Intervention of professional school staff
- Parent contact or conference
- Referral to Administrator
- Referral to appropriate law enforcement or other government agency
- School probation
- Warnings
- Suspension
- Expulsion
3. Communication
Parents are informed of events at St. Emile School through:
