Leadership, Emotional Literacy and Empathy

St. Emile is a UNESCO School

We are the only Catholic school in the province with a UNESCO designation. UNESCO helps our students develop a passion for human rights, environmental sustainability and social justice. This program provides opportunities to assist less fortunate people locally, across Canada and globally.

Emotional Literacy via Roots of Empathy

Roots of Empathy has proven effective in reducing levels of aggression and bullying among school children while raising social/emotional competence and increasing empathy. A trained Roots of Empathy Instructor coaches students to observe a baby’s development and to label the baby’s feelings, teaching children to identify and reflect on their own feelings and the feelings of others.

Student Leadership Opportunities

Our students are encouraged to develop leadership skills and responsibility through activities such as:

  • School lunch monitors
  • School safety patrol program
  • A multi-grade buddy system for various school activities
  • An active student council made up of students from each grade level
  • Special events ambassadors (Learning fair, open house, reading month, etc.)
  • UNESCO / ASPnet Council

St. Emile Hockey Development Program

Program Details

We are thrilled to partner with Evolution Hockey to provide a unique hockey program to our students from Grades 2-8.

The St. Emile Hockey  curriculum was developed to provide players with detailed instruction in the foundational skills they need to play the game. Our individual skill development approach allows us to challenge players at all levels with our focused approach on skill acquisition.

Our program is tailored to ensure the participants have fun and progress in their skill level and enjoyment of the sport. This is done through curriculums developed specifically for each age group and skill level

The program will allow players to develop and refine fundamental skills in a fun, pressure-free environment, through a focused progression on both power skating and puck skills.

Friday scrimmage skates will focus on game-like application of techniques taught in power skating and skill sessions, using small area games and competitions. These sessions will promote community, teamwork and leadership in a fun environment that is conducive to athlete and personal development.
